Paul Masterton MP gets update on smart Scotland progress

East Renfrewshire MP, Paul Masterton got the latest update on the smart meter rollout in East Renfrewshire at an event in Westminster with Smart Energy GB.

Currently, over 11000 households in the East Renfrewshire area are already experiencing the benefits that smart meters bring. Following the session, he encouraged more people to explore how they could use less energy and save money by contacting their energy supplier about getting a smart meter.

Independent research from Populus shows the difference that smart meters are already having, with:

  • 83 per cent of people with a smart meter saying they have a better idea of what they are spending on energy.
  • 81 per cent of people with a smart meter saying they have taken at least one step to reduce their energy use.

Further research has also shown that the longer a household has a smart meter fitted, the more likely a household is to have had a conversation about or take action to become more energy efficient.

East Renfrewshire MP, Paul Masterton said:

“Smart meters are a vital part of a changing energy system that will put consumers back in control of their energy usage and their bills. It’s good to hear that thousands of households in East Renfrewshire have already got a smart meter upgrade and that their experiences are largely positive.

“We need to get this rollout completed so that we can have a smarter, greener energy system. I’d encourage all of my constituents to contact their energy supplier about getting their smart meter upgrade – a great thing to put on the new year to-do list!”
