East Renfrewshire MP Paul Masterton has encouraged local residents to once again get behind the Scottish Poppy Appeal.
Since 1921, Poppyscotland has provided help and support to those who have served in the armed forces and their families at times of crisis, offering practical advice, assistance and funding. Poppyscotland is best known for running the iconic Scottish Poppy Appeal, which takes place each year in the run-up to Remembrance Sunday. Over five million poppies are distributed by volunteers, raising over £2million each year.
This year’s appeal was launched with a special reception hosted by the Secretary of State for Scotland, Alister Jack MP, at Dover House which was lit up in red to mark the occasion.
East Renfrewshire MP, Paul Masterton commented
“Poppyscotland provides life-changing support for our armed forces and veterans community and their families, both here in East Renfrewshire and right across the country.
We are the proud home to a number of veterans in East Renfrewshire and we owe them our support and gratitude. Remembrance Sunday remains a hugely important time of year, and I know that everyone will want to pay their own tribute by wearing a poppy with pride.”
