Paul Masterton MP is backing a campaign to help East Renfrewshire residents get faster broadband, for the same or less money than they pay now.
Ofcom figures show that 96% of homes and offices in East Renfrewshire can now get superfast broadband. But across Scotland, less than half of homes have taken it up and many local residents could be missing out on faster speeds.
Many are paying more than they need to as well. Around four million UK households with old-style, basic broadband have passed their initial contract period and could switch to superfast for the same – or less – money than they currently pay.
The broadband market is highly competitive, with superfast broadband packages now available from around £20 a month.
Paul Masterton, MP for East Renfrewshire commented:
“Broadband access in East Renfrewshire is generally very good, but many people are not taking advantage of the best speeds on offer. In addition, homes and businesses in the more rural parts of the area struggle to get decent quality broadband at all, something which I regularly raise with both the Government and OpenReach. I’d encourage all residents to use this new tool to check what broadband speeds they can access, and shop around to get the best deal available.”
