East Renfrewshire MP, Paul Masterton, has sought a guarantee from TSB bosses that 3 local branches will be protected from closure.
Mr Masterton used a recent session of the Scottish Affairs Select Committee at Westminster to raise the announcement by TSB that three local branches in Barrhead, Clarkston and Thornliebank would be moving to reduced opening hours from July.
Under questioning, Carol Anderson, the “Scotland Distribution Director” at TSB assured Mr Masterton that the 3 branches would remain open at least until the end of 2019 but was unable to give any meaningful reassurances beyond that.
Paul Masterton, MP for East Renfrewshire commented:
“Bank closures have a huge impact on communities, which is why the Scottish Affairs Select Committee at Westminster is continuing to push this matter hard.
Whilst pleased that TSB were keeping their East Renfrewshire branches open with no job losses, I was concerned reducing hours was just the thin end of the wedge.
Whilst any commitment not to close is welcome, there remains uncertainty beyond the end of this year, and I’ll continue to seek more clarity from TSB bosses in the months ahead.”
